This is RIALA’s final Med Tech Training of the year, so if someone in your community needs their CEU's now is the last chance until next year.

In collaboration with LeadingAge CT & RI, alongside CCRI this convenient virtual course will be led by Alison Carroll, Workforce Professor Instructor for Parmacy Tech at the Community College of Rhode Island, and will include four one-hour learning sessions for a total of 4 CEUs per student.

Course Topics

1. Medication Errors: Prevent, Recognize, RespondCommon types and causes of medication errors, prevention strategies, and what to do when an error or near miss occurs.

2. Is It the Medication? Recognizing Medication-Related Changes in ResidentsRecognizing changes such as confusion, sedation, dizziness, falls, bleeding, swelling, or appetite changes that may be related to a resident's medications and should be reported.

3. High-Risk Medications in Older AdultsA review of medication classes that require closer observation in older adults, including anticoagulants, diabetes medications, opioids, sedatives, psychotropic medications, diuretics, and blood pressure medications.

4. Crush, Split, Mix, or Don'tSafe medication administration when dosage-form or swallowing issues arise, including extended-release and enteric-coated medications, capsules, patches, and medications given with food
